Now that I’m graduating are there any places where you can truly feel queer in Italy? Rome, Bologna, Milan? Or will it always feel as limited as Florence? Florence, while beautiful, feels like an open air museum. People’s minds are stuck to the past and they’re not open for new people. Museums have amazing medieval a renaissance works but after that? I never feel truly comfortable showing queerness in the streets, gay bars - while some are wholesome places!! - lack community. Or maybe I don’t go enough. Or maybe they’re too full of old men and American twinks... but so this is where I feel stuck While im grateful for the friends I’ve made, I know they’ll go away in all directions. Love the nerdy vibe of my uni. But ultimately ppl are there to read and write all day not to go out. So it’s time for a new place but I’m not ready to fully move on. But maybe that’s part of it.
