1/2 “This... ‘trans stuff’? Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your boutique gym, scroll through Grindr, and select—oh, I don’t know—some carefully curated, ‘masc for masc,’ oat milk version of gay life that fits neatly into a hashtag. Because you’re trying to tell the world you’ve evolved. That you’ve outgrown the messiness, the activism, the community. But what you don’t know is that the freedom you’re so casually flaunting—it isn’t just about marriage licenses or rainbow logos on corporate merchandise in June. It isn’t about blending in. It’s about breaking out. It’s called liberation. And you are, of course, blindly unaware that in 1969, it was trans women of color namely Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera—who ignited among others the Stonewall uprising. Then I believe it was ACT UP through the '80s and '90s that fought tirelessely while governments turned their backs while hundreds of thousands of in our community were dying.
