It’s an elusive little thing Annoyingly furtive and flighty Only presenting itself when coaxed It’s hide away a secret It comes in an instant And sometimes not at all It either appears uninvited, sudden and spontaneous Or only by intentional choice It leaps over boundaries Heals deep wounds It maddens the mind It moves the body Some people call it an emotion Some people call it a choice Others know it only in abstract terms And others only know it physically I often wonder if I’ve known it. Truly, like in the way that poets, artists, musicians and authors have described it. And then, other times, I see it everywhere Inescapable, in the small, the mundane, the ordinary Maybe that’s just because “love” contains multitudes.
