Neither / Both Sรผdtirol / Trentino-Alto Adige: a place that feels strangely familiar and foreign at once. Itโ€™s the only place I know where German and Italian live side by side without needing to blend. They donโ€™t just translate each other, they co-exist. Like two truths in one sentence. Like dishes that donโ€™t belong to one country, but to a shared history of borders, climate, and negotiation. Today I had pasta with wild garlic, king oyster mushrooms, and too much butter. It tasted like something that grew up between languages โ€” dense, quiet, deeply comforting. Maybe thatโ€™s why I keep coming back here. Not for clarity, but for the soft edges. For the way contradiction can feel like home.

I havenโ€™t shared anything I write in a while. Not because I had nothing to say โ€” more because I couldnโ€™t keep up with how I perceived everything has to be said. Too clever, too ironic, too curated. Iโ€™ve gotten used to a certain kind of distance. Irony is easier than closeness. Jokes protect me from revealing too much. And being cool often just means not having to care. But I want to care more again. I want to write things that are allowed to feel. I want cooking to be more than a recipe. Rather a gesture. And I want to tell stories that feel like all kinds of memories โ€” tender, messy, cold, beautiful. I want to start sharing short stories, recipes that tell more about people than portions, thoughts on food and life. If you're in the mood to search for those things with me, I'd love to have you along.
