I need your opinión! 🗣️🗣️ I have a brand project. This woman wants to open a store in Barcelona to sell all natural skin care products, targeted to mature women who embraces getting “old”, wrinkles and grey hair 💕but also likes taking care of her skin. I asked “what name you have in mind?” She said “I’m thinking about Oily, cause at the beginning that was the primary element people used for tratments…” So…what are your thoughts about “Oily” as a name? 👀 (I have my thoughts about this, but wbu?)

Immediately No! It's confusing and likely misleading. If she wants to keep the root of oils she could simplify but just using 'Oil' and picking a work that might work with it. Otherwise, I'd have her work with you in a brainstorm or give her homework based on her brand, mission and descriptors she'd want to be associated with to come up with a one to two word name while keeping in mind marketability, her primary demo and attraction bias based on presentation and name

How about “Oily” in Catalan, since she’s in Barcelona. “Oliós” 😂 sounds better

“Oily” has a lot of negative connotations especially in relation to skin care. I think it could turn potential customers away. If she is stuck on the oil angle could it be more along the lines of the type of oil or how it’s extracted / processed. Give a better idea of the product and it’s origins. I like the Catalan angle too that Pormes suggested.

@tala I’ll try again: Thanks! I’ve seen all the work she’s done, like the business model canvas, value proposal and everything, but the naming it’s like the last frontier for her, no way to get it done ☹️. I know Oily is not so appealing and doesn’t work in her favor, that’s why I’m trying to recap different opinions and suggest other names that might work better.

@anothermillennialhere uhm that’s a good point! The good thing about all of this is that the project is in a very early stage so (if she’s not stucked with Oily as a name) there’s a lot of possibilities 💪🏼

Since I’m trapped in a endless train trip…I’ve got some time to recap information: 1-Oil has been present in selfcare since the Egyptians. So even if the meaning or even the sound is weird, i guess it makes sense. 2-Nowadays we don’t want to look Oily but maybe Egyptians and Roman’s liked it? 😂 3-She’s also so in love with Druids. They were deeply connected to nature, practicing rituals, and holding profound knowledge in areas like religion, philosophy, and medicine. I guess this resonates with her at some point. 4-I checked out some specific oils that Egyptians, Roman’s and Celtics used to use in ointments (talking about weird words) and some of them sound really nice! Also I found some names of gods in Celtic that could be handy. This train is working with two ours delay…HELP!

@sergio total, igualmente ella es súper consciente de la traducción del nombre pero parece que quiere ir al the way…igualmente le comenté así de jiji jaja que el nombre puede dar falsas expectativas (o malas) del producto 😂 en plan si la marca la llamas Oily la peña va a pensar que todos los productos van a ser mazo aceitosos…es como para pensárselo

oily feels like it holds a negative connotation especially within skincare but i also love that the name holds a bit of rebellion within that industry. i also recognize i’m not the demographic for this product. however i wonder if the etymology of the word is worth exploring for example olie (old french i believe with other ways of spelling it as well) is pronounced similarly to oily in english. plus visually i feel people would disassociate the definitive language but who’s to say without research to back that up 🤷🏽‍♂️

Se ela quiser manter a sonoridade, podia fazer um nome-fantasia “Ollie”, que escapa da conotação negativa do “engraxado/gorduroso” e dá margem pra poder explicar a origem com mais delicadeza caso alguém fique curioso
