Invite Competition: Terms
These terms are additional to Collective's general Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Taking part means you agree to both.
Before you start
Collective exists to be a safe and welcoming place for LGBTQ+ people. We're trusting you to invite people who are aligned with that, and to help keep Collective free from spam, bigots and bad actors. We don't sell your data, or the data of anyone you invite. Our Privacy Policy has the full picture.
1. Overview
This competition rewards members who bring the most qualified new members to Collective. The top 5 referrers share the prize pool, set out in Section 8.
2. Who can take part
- You need to be a Collective member, aged 18 or over.
- You and the people you invite all need to be in one of our priority countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Germany or Spain.
- You're entered as soon as someone joins using your invite code. There's nothing to sign up for.
- Anyone who works for Collective, including contractors and freelancers, and their immediate family, can't take part.
- If we've paid you to promote Collective in the last 6 months, including as a creator or influencer partner, you can't take part.
- If your account is suspended or terminated for breaking our Terms of Service, you're out of the competition.
3. What counts as a qualified invite
An invite counts if the new member:
- Signs up in one of the priority countries listed in Section 2
- Follows at least 5 people
- Posts at least once
- Opens the app again 7 or more days after joining
If someone forgot to enter your code, they can add it from Edit Profile within 7 days of creating their account and it'll still count.
4. Fair play
- One Collective account per person. Profiles need to be real people, genuinely themselves. No blank profiles, no AI-generated ones, no duplicates or bots.
- Invites only count when someone joined because they wanted to. Paying, rewarding or otherwise incentivising someone to use your code doesn't count, and we may remove those invites.
- We may remove any invite or participant we reasonably believe is trying to inflate their count. We won't apply this unreasonably.
- Fraud, abuse, or breaking our community guidelines can get you disqualified.
- Checking suspicious activity can take up to 14 days.
5. Good faith
We want people to share Collective because they like it. If you're causing real harm to Collective, its members or its team, you can't win a prize.
That covers things like:
- Hate speech, harassment or bullying directed at Collective members or staff, on or off the platform
- Posting content anywhere that would break our Terms of Service or Privacy Policy if you posted it on Collective
- Making false or unsubstantiated claims about Collective, its members or its team
- Sharing your invite link alongside content that damages the Collective brand
We'll only use this where the harm is clear. Honest criticism and feedback are always welcome and won't count against you.
6. The leaderboard
- The leaderboard shows usernames and invite counts. It's a good indication of where you stand, but it isn't the final count. Numbers move as we verify signups.
- Your final position is confirmed after the competition ends, once every entry has been checked against Section 3.
- If you'd rather not appear publicly, set your profile to private in Settings. Your username will be hidden. You can still win.
7. How long it runs
- The competition runs until the published end date, and until 1,000 qualified signups have been reached across the community, whichever comes later.
- If we need more time, we may extend it. Any extension is announced in the app and on the competition page before the current end date.
- It won't run longer than 3 months in total.
8. Prizes
- $1,000 USD in total, split across the top 5.
- 1st: $400. 2nd: $250. 3rd: $175. 4th: $100. 5th: $75.
- All amounts are in USD. Prizes are paid as Amazon gift cards in your local currency, converted from USD at the exchange rate on the day we pay out.
- If you can't use an Amazon gift card where you are, we'll arrange an alternative of equivalent value.
- You need at least 5 qualified invites to win, even if you finish in the top 5. We pay out every place that has someone eligible for it.
- If two people finish level, whoever got there first ranks higher. If we can't tell, they split the combined prizes for those places.
9. When winners are announced
- Within 21 days of the end date. Invites on the final day still count, and that window gives us time to run the 7-day activity check and review everything for fraud.
- Your rank during the competition is provisional until then.
10. Sharing your link
If you're sharing your link publicly, mention that you're entering a competition. Some countries require it, and it's good practice anyway.
11. Changes and cancellation
- We'd only cancel or change the competition early in exceptional circumstances: a legal requirement, a security incident or attack, widespread fraud, or a technical failure that makes the competition unworkable. We won't do it unreasonably, or for convenience.
- If it does happen, and it isn't down to widespread fraud or something outside our control, we'll still pay the top 5 at that point, prorated to reflect how far the competition got.
12. Tax
- Prizes may count as taxable income where you live, and reporting them is up to you.
- If a prize goes over the reporting threshold in your country, we may need some tax details before paying out.
13. No purchase necessary
- It's free to enter, and buying anything won't improve your chances.
- This is decided by real referral activity, not luck. No part of the outcome is random.
- It's up to you to check that taking part is allowed where you live.
14. Apple
This promotion isn't affiliated with, sponsored by or administered by Apple Inc.
15. The legal bits
- As is: the competition and leaderboard are provided as they are. We can't promise uninterrupted access or perfect tracking.
- Liability: as far as the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from taking part.
- Your rights: nothing here removes rights you have under consumer law in your country that can't be excluded.
- Governing law: these terms, and any dispute about the competition, are governed by the laws of England and Wales and handled under the same process as our general Terms of Service.
- Cancellation: see Section 11.
