@colee 🤦. I mean it’s the same situation. People are being forced to work highly unreasonable hours and get paid little to no money for their time. I use my buying power in ways that avoids funding slave labour. I apologise for making a historical reference out of your reach I forgot to check where you are from before mentioning the darker side of americas past as we both know it won’t be mentioned much in textbooks over there. Slave labour, genocide and all these other nasties we see in the pst have not magically disappeared because it’s the 21st century. I try and avoid funding them. Do your research. FURTHERMORE the clothes are all fast fashion. They are designed to break and be bought again. And as someone who cares deeply about the prospect of actually having a future I refuse to buy fast fashion as much as I possibly can afford to. Fast fashion is just more plastic that lands on beaches, landfills, the ocean, and highly toxic and polluting burnings. Sorry if this has come across as rude but I get very heated about topics like this and considering the direction the world is currently heading in I think that it is quite valid. I did a speech on the effects on microplastics not all that long ago and so I worry about the plastic levels of the world’s water quite a lot, as I know the extent of the damage they can do.

People are being used as slaves AS WE SPEAK and that is what brands like shein and temp are built on. Plastics are ravaging our planet NOW. Not in the past. I wouldn’t be worrying if it was in the past. And it is that deep. If you are so void of empathy and care that you are a ok to be funding modern day slavery than go for it. You’ll just be another tick on the long list of lost causes. But I’m not void of empathy and I don’t like funding it. funding MODERN.. SLAVERY. I don’t know how much clearer I can make that for you.

@fouvey THANK YOU bc i was literally dreaming about this and was really wanting to pop off - cuz it really isn’t ‘just clothes’, say that to the landfills filled with clothing, right next to food packaging - it’s all plastic, it’s all the same to the landfill! except we can prevent fast fashion waste SO much easier than food packaging and other types of production waste. At least w food that’s a literal continuous need, and an expendable resource. The way fast fashion has people thinking about clothing is basically the same! But we have so much clothing on this planet, enough to clothe the next 6 generations. @colee i do beg you do a bit of research, and recommend the sustainability brand checker ‘Good on You’ to look for better alternatives! (they also filter by price if that’s an obstacle, but 2nd hand will always be cheaper, and usually better quality!)
