Not to be a conspiracy theorist but, anybody else find it interesting that the pope who has been an ally for lgbtqia+ people is suddenly in critical condition? 👀 I get the man was old but it’s an awful well timed coincidence for the orange man and the state of the U.S. rn. If the next pope is a horrendous homophobe, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some back door finagling in the conclave to get him there…

Papa Francesco has never been an ally for lgbt+. Few months ago he even made huge polemic around the use of the “frocciagine” word which could be translated by “faggotry”… which he used in public TWICE.

@basil I know of this incident! I’m pretty sure he didn’t understand the weight of the word itself and in general has been much more leaning towards the “all people make mistakes and sin and so no one here should be judging each other” which is a much better stance than most other religious officials… but he’s he did in fact say “faggot”

@voidbarbxe perhaps “ally” was a stretch but let’s actually talk about it. This is collective. Few popes have shown as compassionate an approach to lgbt people compared to predecessors and his words affects the ideologies of over 30% of the worlds population (31% of the worlds population being Christian).

@rylo he has shown more tolerance towards us than any other popes, sure, if hearing that helps you listen to those of us that were abused as children by christians. he represents a religion that violent enforces patriarchal gender roles, and yet again I’m in conversation with a cis man that finds his power compassionate. pardon my cynicism, it’s grown from the water christians pour everywhere without regard or respect for other people’s lives

@voidbarbxe you are not alone in this and it is brave to assume I was not raised a Christian. I was in catholic school for 10 years in a very catholic family. Pulling those roots from my soul has been a brutal experiences for me personally and I still feel their presence on occasion. No, my experience as a white cis male is not yours by any means I’m sure but I know the importance of acknowledging when perspectives shift, even slightly, towards a better landscape where everyone can coexist peacefully. Does this make sense?

I’m of course empathic to your experience leaving catholicism, but you are being vague and I’m left wondering if you’re fully listening. the ‘I know I’m a white cis male’ tactic of disarming feminist criticism of patriarchy is a well-worn tell that of not being fully heard; pls consider not doing that when a trans person points out cissexism, especially in the midst of a on-going trans panic: peoples perspectives have shifted quite negatively towards us
