To think we’re all disposable – is beauty a sustainable currency in relationships?

No, because beauty by its definition is fleeting. Anything built on that is bound to collapse.

Not really, considering that the nature of currencies is fluctuation.

@lav is it fleeting or does it evolve?

@alextep either or, but I guess you can say everything evolves including our personalities, perceptions, needs, wants and desires.

That’s a fascinating way to put it — are you saying beauty loses value once the novelty fades? Are you referencing romantic relationships or relationships in general?

@johnnyb_92 I think we’re complicit in this beauty ranking system, whether we like it or not. It applies in all social spheres, but especially the romantic one. Just like any economy, our perceived value fluctuates.

@alextep gosh, that’s really well said. It’s sad but true. I’ve ever thought of it like an economy before. Do you think there’s a way to step outside that system or are we stuck in it? Is it possible to find a relationship where the individuals see beyond that ranking system?

@johnnyb_92 thank you! I think that it’s inherently human to judge and evaluate things and people as a way of self preservation. The only way to see beyond this system, in my opinion, is to build trust with time and efforts.

@alextep That makes a lot of sense — I like how you tied it to self-preservation. Trust really does shift how we see people, doesn’t it? It’s wild how time can make someone’s energy feel more beautiful than anything physical. I’ve definitely felt that shift in connections where someone’s depth just starts outshining everything else.
