I get you. Why do you think it happens ? Is it for a lack of shared cultural references ? Or something more political maybe?

@basil it’s their inability to have fun, hold any genuine conversation, and a refusal to be curious and open to new things.

i think it’s more than a conversational thing, i think it has so much to do with how us non-straight people grow up, how our brain is shaped over the years to think about things and ourselves in a way that many straight people don’t have to (hyper vigilance of the self for example)

homophobia, the concept of chosen family, flirting dynamics, fluid friendships, pressure to follow norms, fear of not passing, expectations of advocacy… these are just a few of the things that i feel can be so specific to lgbt experiences and in a way it makes me feel less relatable to many heterosexual people because they live in a socially protected bubble

Absolutely, we’re innately marginalized and seen as the other within this heteronormative world. The smaller and more concentrated our subcultures are, the more marginalized and socially foreign those subcultures are. This creates a spectrum of gaps and holes of communication, understanding and integration.

The recurrent need to explain a chosen family, loving promiscuity and so forth gets so old
