You can stay in Cihangir or Nişantaşı in the European side. For the Asian side, Moda would be the perfect option

Pera or Karaköy probably a good area to stay. Then you’re close to the sights and museums and it’s easy to get across to other parts of the city. Definitely get a ferry across to the Asian side for great views or even better if you have the time, get one up along the Bosphorus.

@jont I’m staying in kadiköy! It’s amazing around here :) the Asian side is gorgeous, I’m going to check out the European side today and hopefully find a hammam!
