I don’t get people on this app. If you are looking for “Friends Only”, why do you post thirst traps? Am I too naive, perhaps?

Yup, at this rate, there could be a “Friends with benefits” category as well. I wonder how many ppl would use it.

Yeah, it makes me wonder. I’m all for erotic, even pornographic content/art/themes, but I guess the erotism or the sex are less the topic here in comparison with the cult of the self, made visible by cutaneous exposure. Ahhahahahhahahahahah maybe I’m just out of sync with this youth/generation/culture.

@dusk so what you are saying is that the exposure could be more motivated by the need of external validation? That’s an interesting angle.

Only for narcissistic reaffirmation :) Simple and shallow like that. (Or it’s a way for selecting potential hookups in a more discrete way)

@gabrielkehdi I imagine that just like in insta, some of them try leading you to their monetized 🍑 accounts. When did “Friends Only” turned into “onlyfriends”?

as it is interesting, i don’t think one thing necessarily cancels the other

I was literally just thinking the same thing. Like I don’t need to see how hot someone is to be their friend. And this app basically just looks like Grindr. So what are people here really looking for? Or am I just a prude?

In my opinion, wanting to make more friends and wanting to feel confident by posting pics where you feel hot are two separate things. They can absolutely happily coexist on the same profile and one doesn’t cancel out the other :)

Unfortunately I am kind of dissapointed from this app… i would love to have my friends here but for what? To look at mostly topless men?

@pabby well, I appreciate that you have to give proof of existence to sign up here tho. Grindr is full of catfish and bots.

@cal imho if it’s just all thirst traps on a profile there’s usually no effort from them to have a conversation that could even lead to becoming a friendship. As @alternectual says - narcissistic reaffirmation.

@theartfulroger some people are only on Collective for dates and that’s totally valid. I don’t think that’s narcissism, people are looking for different things on here and they’re just looking for something different from you and that’s OK let’s not be too judgemental :)

@cal Ofc everyone will use the app for what they want out of it, but there’s a strong bias to thirst traps (despite trying to change my own algorithm) and under representation of the broader diversity of our creative and wonderful queer community.
