It’s depressing to find this app is enabling Spotify further. It is truly one of the dark forces out there, reflecting our society’s general disregard for musicians by not paying them while actively investing in weapons manufacturing (100 million to Helsing last year, while demonetising tons of artists on Spotify). It’s not hard to switch platforms y’all! Use SongShift to move your playlists. Make your music feel good again. ✌️

Which platform can you recommend?

My indie musician friends all say Apple Music is better. It is far from perfect but a step in the right direction. Spotify is actively making it harder and harder for musicians (especially newbies) to have a career of any sort. And then of course there’s Bandcamp and Radio Garden, NTS, etc where you can find all kinds of amazing artists and support their work in really substantial ways.

I’m a musician and share my music on Bandcamp, SoundCloud and Apple Music. I’m looking into removing my music from Spotify right now. So many platforms to divest from at the moment but there seem to be more ethical alternatives around now

It’s also part of the future to build our worlds in an ethical way - it feels so good to make these changes!

Totally! Spotify and Google once had more ethical values and we have to be prepared to take our art, attention and money elsewhere when these orgs get greedy

@lesley_moon I was just having this conversation with Holly after spotify threw a party for Trump. I don’t love apple as a company but I’m glad to hear they are treating their musicians better - they are also keeping thier DEI initiatives.

@kaliperry Yeah exactly- I’m not handing out prizes for giant corporations keeping their DEI programs in place bc we know there are so many ways they keep exploiting labor and the environment, etc…

@lesley_moon definitely not giving out prizes - for me it’s about the choice in optics companies are making by publicly dropping their initiatives. Those companies get bumped up my boycott list.
