I feel like I could write a whole paper on my experiences with Ethel Cain and PD, and Perverts takes an even deeper dive with more confusion on my end but also a lot more discovery. It’s so hard to summarize what I feel about the album here, but I’ll say I was let down upon my first listen throughs. It is definitely growing on me a lot, but I still do feel a little bit remiss to not mention I wish she sang more and there was more instrumentation and lyrics. I believe it is intentionally barren-feeling. Almost as if this album wasn’t designed to make you “feel good,” yet it’s repulsiveness and disgust isn’t altogether a bad thing. The bits of relief found in the album are crystal-clear and gorgeous however and I revel in them.

I want to hear how people interpret the events of Perverts as they relate to the character of Ethel Cain in PD? Housofpsychoticwomn seems to be written from Ethel’s mother’s perspective, possibly calling the two of them living in a home together the house of psychotic women, and the “I love you”s do seem to be from Ethel’s mom saying it to her. Idk how else the events are tied though, I wish there was more tie between these albums and more lore was given to the universe of ethels mother.
