When I was 20, I needed to get to the ER which was the first time my parents saw me in months and they were both upset to find out that my nails were painted. That conversation turned into them finding out I had a boyfriend and afterwards we didn’t talk for like 6 months. It’s been 4 years since then, and they’ve slowly come around and even though they don’t fully get me, they are trying to unconditionally support me. All in all, if it looks bleak initially, know that it has the potential to change, and people have the potential to surprise you. Even with a negative reaction, it was so freeing to not hide parts of who I was anymore, and there are plenty of ppl in my life who accept me the way I am

We were at my mom’s (at the time) boyfriends sisters house, it was Thanksgiving, I was 20. Just her and I sitting around the fire pit. My heart was beating as if I was running, I was shaking and I knew my voice would crack. My mom is the coolest mom on Earth. I KNEW she would be ok w it, she had tons of gay and other friends. I told her “I think I might be gay” (I was still not completely sure). I started crying. She was shocked but not angry, upset or anything negative. Just loved me. Hard thing to do but the best experience. I told my dad 2-3 years later. This also went well and was overall a positive reaction, but there’s a lot of history there that i wont get into.
