When you make exceptions for people, it may feel like kindness in the moment, but what you’re really doing is choosing them over yourself. Every exception you allow is a quiet ‘yes’ to them and a silent ‘no’ to you. Boundaries are not walls to keep people out. They are lines of respect that protect your peace, your desires, and your truth. The moment you start crossing those lines just to keep someone else comfortable, you teach yourself that your needs don’t matter. Stop overlooking your own voice just to keep others happy. If you abandon yourself for the sake of someone else, you lose the very foundation of self-respect. Choosing yourself is not selfish. It is the only way to truly live in alignment with who you are.
