Open grief and question: I am surrounded by so many loving people and beautiful things and places, curiosity and art, but feeling at such a loss for the cruelty happening at this moment that we can’t seem to stop? It makes me feel lonely on this planet because other people are still living their lives (esp. here in Southern France) and I can’t understand why the world is still turning while people are dying? I know humanity has always had its good and bad but I feel like I’m in a living nightmare of complacency. 🇵🇸 Would love to know what you think and do, Collective people! As for me I try to take care of myself with exercise, nourishing food, dancing as much as possible, seeing loved ones, speaking up and protesting. But I struggle to find the joy in it or to do the art that usually drives me. Or even want to try. Too heartbroken. Add to this the MAGA regime’s attack on human rights (and similar political waves globally) and my grief feels to be expanding infinitely.

It overwhelming to feel the burden of knowing all the injustices in the world. While taking care of ourselves we can also plan and reflect where we can help. We need solidarity and to oraganise and work within our sphere of influence. Maybe it’s just resharing posts on some days, it’s going to marches, signing or starting petitions, writing to representatives, or sharing and donating to fundraisers. I have a couple group chats where we encourage each other to donate to MAP /PRCS and share and sign various petitions. We do what we can

I know how you mean. I feel at times guilty enjoying my life in safety too :(

Mutual aids can help as well if you find such initiatives to help people seek refuge

really appreciate your response @yve. It’s crazy because my career is in the nonprofit sector, and I did a master’s in humanitarian aid/international development, where I essentially spent a year studying why the system keeps things the way they are, and how institutions and incentives drive injustice. It was disillusioning to say THE LEAST. The field of systems thinking (understanding social change as part of complex adaptive systems) saved me, and now I help nonprofits and networks of nonprofits think and work more systemically. It’s just, lately with USAID funding gone, I see colleagues and nonprofits losing their work left and right. It is a massacre of the sector. Knowing the preventable disease and death that is being welcomed back. Watching hate be normalized. It kills me to watch this. Trying to keep up the hope, do small things locally and continue to post resistance to the Trump admin as I know my former Mormon community (yeah haha) see it. I tell myself if I can help one person feel less alone, find courage to stand up, or hope to keep going, it is worth it. But sometimes the staggering cruelty just leaves me feeling so angry and dead inside. I didn’t sign up to witness this, that I am aware of! Anyway, thank you 💖 💖 💖
