hey little gay people. This weekend is going to be rough for me. Tell me a little about yourselves.

I’m in some sort of an ADHD burnout/paralisis atm (I suspect), although I had a pretty productive and hectic week, so I’m probably just being too hard on myself again 🤣

I’m prepping for my first work trip to head office for my new job, leaving tomorrow. Mix of nerves and excitement to meet my new colleagues

I’m sorry to all that find immense discomfort, and I hope you all have a great day soon. My weekend starts today, and I’m hoping to get back on track.

@gore-galore jeez! That’s awful! Has it gotten any better? I’m sorry you have to deal with that, and I’m sorry I was so slow to respond. Not on here much, especially not when traveling for work. It’s astonishing how often people get really angry about things that don’t matter! I think that often they are on edge about something else that matters a lot but that they can’t do anything about, so the anger comes out over stupid things. I used to be much more confrontational than I am now. I have a few questions I try to ask myself when I get angry: Does what has annoyed me really make a difference in my life? Can arguing with this person really change anything? Does this person even know what they’re talking about and does their opinion even matter to me? There was a time when an insult from a total stranger could lead to a fight. Now I take the advice my parents and teachers gave me when I was young and I “consider the source.” If family, friends, or supervisors have a negative opinion of me, it matters, and I’ll try to explain myself, but life’s too short to waste time arguing because a stranger stole my seat on the subway or someone who doesn’t know me lobs an insult!

@casbahmike it’s not really a physical altercation. I’ve been fighting for better pay and working hours with higher-ups since November, actively seeking better employment, and have an alarming number of individuals I work with who can passively create a problem-whole cloth. It’s exhausting, and I think it makes it hard for me to be a better person when the standards in the workplace are so low.

@gore-galore ah, gotcha! Well then I say keep up the good fight and don’t let the bastards get you down! You may need to find a job that values your contributions more. As much as you can, stick to your own, personal work ethic and take pride in doing the best job you can. I know how you feel, though. I’ve worked as a fast food cook, retail sales person, delivery truck driver, mental health worker at a psych hospital, etc. The people who do the real work in any field are often the least well compensated and I think the gap is growing! I hope things work out for you. Keep an eye out for opportunities either where you already work or elsewhere. Good luck!

I work in retail so I feel you! We get Friday off in Australia (everything’s closed) but working the full long weekend for the extra $$$. It’s barely a trade off but worth it. But also my ‘weekend’ will be Tuesday/Wednesday and I can’t wait to get out hiking!
