A screenshot of a dating app interface, showing a profile with options for connection and friendship.

About half of the people on Collective are only here for friends and connections, so we’re testing a redesign of the Intentions page that makes it easier to know if someone is open to dates (or not). If you’ve tried it let me know what you think 💭

@artfromla yes! There’s a few people who are in a relationship but are still open to dates, likely in open relationships

I love the change up there, it’s nice to have it blanked out - for clarity’s sake!

I’ve noticed it only asks if you follow from someone’s profile, and then it’s mandatory. But not from the search page, nor with “recommended” profiles that are added. I’m not sure there should be a difference between a mutual connection and a match, maybe they should be one and the same? Also, not sure if there’s enough clear water between the first two options, idk if I want to meet someone until we’ve chatted a bit; but I also don’t want to rule it out at the point I’m asked. Generally on board with aligning on expectations up front, though, so love the idea of this feature!

“Dates” could use some more definition along with more detailed relationship or romantic status… the spectrum of open to poly to monog in our community is vast, and this feels a little too binary or at least too vague

Neat, I’ll have to take a look at it. I don’t even look at it. I just dismiss it. Maybe play with the layout- font size, boldness, etc to bring more attention to it? I’m a squirrel, my attention span is 2 seconds.. also, can you set a price tier for doom scrolling? I know there are thousand and thousands and thousands more things I could continue to scroll on, and I’d like that. I honestly would rather scroll us queer as folk peeps then the straight ones, no offense. I’d pay for that feature. 😬😬 doom scroll doom scroll!

OK, I have to admit it’s been really interesting. I’ve met a few people that are only here for friends and that’s been exciting and then I met two people who were up for date dates. The only bad thing is they live in completely different countries.

I like the first option. I’m not actively looking for friends nor dates. It’s not possible to only set no expectations.

I’ve had more friendly conversations here than any other app. Feels more relaxed here and less awkward or superficial.
