Pretty safe for me to conclude that I have little to no luck with swipe based dating apps. Have matched with thousands of people in aggregate between 2017-2026 being off and on Tinder/Hinge, and of those, I only still talk to one. He’s a very good friend of mine since like, 2019. I statistically have better luck on meeting people offline or even on hookup apps (hate using those just because I also put up with a lot of nonsense on them) for both dates and friendships; it’s pretty much how I met all my prior romantic relationships. Does anyone else experience this? I always wonder how much of it stems from how I approach dating apps vs. from factors such as me competing against the countless other options my matches likely have, the lack of the immediacy of an in person meetup since meeting in person and, more often than not, HU apps collapse that gap between interest and action whereas Hinge/Tinder kinda draw it out with the back and forth texting for days/weeks before a date that may or may not go well takes place, etc. Previously would’ve pointed to the gay community and concluded that they just like going after the shiny new thing, especially in larger cities, which likely has some truth to it, but it’s probably better to look within or point my finger at the multi-million-dollar corporation whose core motive (to make money) overlaps very little, if at all, with their users’ motives (to find love or lasting connections).
