For now, health is what motivates me more.

honestly just pay attention to how you feel on the days you exercise and the days you are not. i noticed on days when i skip i feel stiff and just slow and weird(er). but on the days when I do exercise, even if i don’t want to, i feel more energetic and enthusiastic.

but also listen to your body. when it wants to rest, it NEEDS to rest.

@nikolaidis For me it is difficult to find consistency. I usually start one session, then cannot keep up the following days. It’s like a lot of pressure instantly builds on me to be consistent/eat the right amount of protein/have some results…have you ever experienced anything like that?

@erythros but where comes this pressure? And why would you say you can’t keep up? It is okay to skip some days, and you don’t need to be on your best everyday.

@erythros so it might be you feed on motivation vs. discipline. those two are soooo different. motivation is nice but it has a time limit. when discipline is built. i’d suggest to start very small and easy so you can have positive association with exercising. we are talking about lifestyle, not a temporary phase to reach some goal and quit. so i’d suggest start exercising once a week for like 10-20 minutes only and make it super easy and use only the machines or exercises you like. and dedicate either one meal per day or one day per week when you eat healthy. stay on this formula let’s say for a month or two until you notice it’s not bugging or annoying you anymore and up it up from there. keep adding more minutes or days or meals per day, per week, per month until you reach the level you prefer. i’d say the golden standard is 3-4 times per week and 45-60 minutes exercise and 6 days out of 7 healthy eating. so make small steps towards that. goal is to get used to discipline and routine. does that make sense?

@japds that’s a great question! if this desire or need is external, you will do mostly harm for yourself mentally and physically. if it’s something you want YOURSELF to feel better, then yet again listen to your body. choose Healthy lifestyle vs. social or aesthetic lifestyle. healthy lifestyle will bring aesthetic as a bonus.

@nikolaidis exactly! I’m on the beginning of the healthy journey, started today. And, as I said, health is the biggest motivation. But I know how much discipline is needed to stay on this.

@japds Probably from inside of me. Maybe my mistake is that I always want to be the best instead of enjoying the process.

@erythros personally, I don’t think this is something negative, it can help push you forward. The problem is expectations. If you can manage that, than it’s just fine. But, instead of trying to be the best at one thing, try to be better than you of the past.

Try not to overthink it or compare yourself to what everyone else is doing. There will always be someone better or more motivated or lifting more or whatever. Go, try and integrate it into your routine, but don’t worry if you miss a session! The most important thing is to make it work for you :)

Are you generally talking about any form of physical exercise or specifically hitting the gym (doing workouts by yourself)?

Honestly, it really helps my anxiety so that’s my reason lol

Gym helps me release stress. Also what keeps me motivated is being able to eat food without feeling guilty. Right now i dont want to go, but i am going too. And if you are just starting out, its ok to feel intimated etc, but once you accomplish lets say after 2-3 workouts where your technique is good, confidence will just flow and you will just want to keep going. Always go for you! 🤗

@markie33 Thanks! Well for me is the opposite, I get stressed about eating too much food and not getting enough nutrients to grow, so at some point I just give up.

@erythros trust me i over complicate things so i know where you are coming from. Not implying that you are over complicating however i can relate where you are coming from. Put this way, if you are struggling to just go to the gym, make your first goal that you will go to the gym 4 times a week, now in this week, dont be hard on yourself with your diet. Next week, say you go to the gym 4 times, but 3 out of the 7 days you will be more mindful to ensure you are giving your body the right macros, then from then each week you will adjust, improve, maybe you might stall day or two or a week, but just keep yourself in a mind frame where your just going. The first month if you are just starting out really should be focusing on form and technique. And the rest will follow. My fitness pal is a good app to keep track. It really depends on what your goals are, but this app is good for whichever goals.

a lot of good advice here so not sure i have anything new to add. what @halikarnas said about discipline resonates the most with me. i’ve always been at least semi-regular at swimming and working out but i went through a period of burnout where i wasn’t going and my food intake was not ideal or consistent. putting my health as my number one priority became essential for me and i built up slowly. even if i wasn’t at the pool long, at least i went. once i began to get back in the flow of things i devised a new routine that was very intense but yet again i took it slowly and i focused just as much on the warming up and cooling down as i did on reworking my nutrition. now i calculate my nutritional intake everyday but to start i made more general changes. i could feel the difference right away and became more sensitive to when i didn’t exercise or when i didn’t eat well

there were times when i didn’t want to go to the pool at night in the first couple months but when i got there i was glad i did. so as @halikarnas said focus on discipline and not on motivation because if you build the discipline the motivation will follow. not the other way around. good luck on this journey!

No advice but I feel you, I’m just starting out and I’m hoping to be consistent !

not the best advice but hate someone! i think they can’t be better than me, i got this shit and then i go. but definitely work on loving yourself enough to not let yourself down.

@xndrxs I’m not sure how this would work for me but you seem to get results so…I trust you.
