There's been this katabasis of romanticism, saying it's a byproduct of purposeless living. Funny thing though, the mind goes to fantastical, illogical, unserious, "funny" things as reprieve for its toil.
Modernity, capitalism, consumerism may be driven through and by intention but when that's satisfied where does man run to?
Yes, there's religion, and there's faith. I encourage, applause and appreciate them as fanciful things, as the next; respectfully. But if necessity is the mother of invention and we all live unique, individual lives, each of our catharsis needs something individually special.
You can't answer the specific with the general. You can't force lives into cut-and-paste boxes. Each life has its own specific needs, er, necessities.
You can't forge inspiration through intention, there's something divine about spontaneity. You can't forge inspiration through logic. That doesn't even make sense. No amount of intentional living will give you the spirit of life, that only comes with abandon, to a romantic way of thinking.
So if necessity is the mother of invention, cheers! Romanticism is the mother of inspiration.
