Wow, that’s a tough question because we’re spoiled for choice in a way that wasn’t true just 20 years ago! When LGBTQ+ people did see themselves in media, it was usually as a stereotype! I’ve said it here before, but possibly my favorite film of all time is the feature film Stonewall, a low-budget, independent film from 1995, NOT the 2015 feature film which is problematic and cliché! The 1995 is the one I like! It’s fact based, but as the main character La Miranda, says in the beginning, there a lot of Stonewall stories, but this is her story. In terms of books, I’d recommend the entire Tales of the City series by Armistead Maupin! The novels are set in San Francisco (mostly) and follow an essential set of characters from the 1970s to the 2010s. They are very funny, but also dramatic page-turners that are very hard to put down.
