Peck’s new one won’t be the first recently released album to use beasts of burden as a central metaphor, though. This is the title track of “Rustin’ in the Rain,” in which the singer uses a mule pulling a plow as a metaphor, pleading with his lover, “Take that whip to task; work me all night ‘neath the flame. I am yours to use and I sure wish you would use me. Do not let my heart fall apart, rustin’ in the rain.”
