It's designed from the ground up to help LGBTQ+ people build deeper connections — from friendships to dating, and everything in between. What Motivates Us Despite being more visible than ever, queer people are increasingly isolated, lonely, and fragmented, being twice as likely to suffer from severe loneliness and social isolation than our cis straight peers. Apps like Grindr, Instagram, and X claim to connect the LGBTQ+ community, but their exclusionary practices and lack of safety measures do more harm than good. Collective’s mission is to make it easier for queer folks to find connection, belonging, and love. It’s a LGBTQ+-powered super-app uniting a global community of artistic collaborators, travel buddies, chosen family members, lifelong friends, and much, much more. How We’re Different Collective was designed to be a much healthier alternative to existing social media apps. Profiles showcase interests rather than likes or follower counts, which encourages folks to connect over shared hobbies and niche obsessions. We’re an online community where members feel comfortable sharing unfiltered selfies, small-fish or big-fish grievances, work-in-progress art pieces, and so much more.

I wholeheartedly support the mission of this app! I really like that this is not a hookup app with all those filters like race, height, weight, preferred sexual role, etc. Why is any of that relevant if all I want to do is chat and make friends. Anything that helps us to meet others from the gay community, even across vast distances, is a welcome app. I have met (virtually, of course) and, dare I say, become friends with a few people, but I mean “a few” quite literally. I have sustained conversations with 3-4 people and I haven’t really found a community like the name Collective suggests. Maybe I’m too old. Most of the profiles seem to be guys in their 20s and 30s showing of their physiques. I’m old enough to be their father, maybe even grandfather.

this app really is its own little world and feels BERY safe compared to anything else. i open any other app with a little anxiety, but here it’s just queer people going about their lives and chatting with each other. simple, cute, cool 🩵
