How we communicate our stories and narratives of self… through narratives of pain, which are built on categories (identities) imagined as fractured as a posed to what makes us whole. I wrote a poem a few years back. It went something like: Tell them who you are [insert your great grandmothers bame] And [your grandmother’s name] And [mother’s name]. Identities may be useful. How we operationalize them and the narratives we construct and attach to them is important. We signal and communicate to the reciever(s), what this must mean. How they should understand our own experience. There is harm in the world, and it may be useful to name it in the context of historical, structural, and social processes to remind persons that there is no “other” and the centrality they may have come to internalize is itself constructed by the same historical, structural, and social processes that have exploited, harmed, oppressed… That is, that their very centrality is mediated by violence.
