i do fear that as a bi man in a hetero relationship i still won’t be accepted by the gay community which is kinda sad

Dare I suggest that if you’re not feeling accepted, you’re probably not spending time with people who are even worthy of hanging out with!

As a bi man, I don’t fully understand this post? Could you elaborate on “acceptance”?

@neelz obviously mine is not a universal experience but i’ve just found that if i start to make friends with gay men and then they find out that i’m in a long term relationship with a woman the friendship fizzles almost immediately. i’m not saying i’m discriminated against or anything like that just that i don’t feel fully welcomed into queer friendship groups the way i see gay men are

Oh wow that’s awful that, thats been your experience! I’ve just seen that you’re based in London as well which confuses me around that even more. I can’t speak to your interactions or your perceptions of them but what I can say from my experience is I’m much more interested in someone’s character when it comes to my friendships and seek the same reciprocity in my friends. It may mean it’ll take longer to find your people but you’d be the richer for it.

Don’t worry about some bitter queens. I love and appreciate bi men, most of my friends also. You have to claim the ‘B’ in LGBTQ!

As someone who is both pansexual and nonbinary, I relate to this 🫂 It hurt so much - god. Keep being out and non-apologetic about it. I tried that and in time I’ve come to be seen as safe space because I don’t have the same judgy hang ups as other groups. The quality of my friends vastly improved. You’ll find your tribe, Bi men are the BEST and I treasure them 🫶

@sam2bh the wrong people, mate. The reals one will have your back but it takes some time and effort.

There is a unique sting in feeling like an outsider within your own community. But it is also an invitation to look further. I’ve learned that sometimes we have to outgrow certain circles to find our real people, and take the time to learn from those who have a wider spectrum of experiences (like those of bi friends in straight relationships) often leads to far more profound and accepting connections.
