My first name, Michael, like those of my three siblings, was chosen from the pantheon of Catholic saints, but has no known precedent in our family history. Michael is the archangel who enforced the expulsion of Satan. My middle name, Anthony, is also that of a saint, but more importantly, it is my father’s name. They considered calling me a Junior, but decided against it. With all of us, my parents chose a name they liked that didn’t have a precedent, and coupled it with a legacy name as our middle name. So the names of my sisters are those of my mother and paternal grandmother, and my brother’s middle name is that of my maternal grandfather.
