I love that you asked this actually. In my personal opinion artistry exists on a spectrum (much like everything else) and I personally believe I’m what you’d consider a very stereotypical “commercial” artist. I like my stuff to have a broad appeal. I still enjoy including elements that are authentic to me (gaming, animation, men, bright colours, energetic linework), but I think deep down I really enjoy entertaining and making lots of people happy. So I guess being mindful of trends and SOMEWHAT appealing to them (not all of them), helps me to reach as many people as possible. I think we all have our challenging days, and if I can brighten someone’s day, (momentarily) by drawing a handsome man with a nice looking doodle, then I’ve done my job!
