Can you be more specific? There’s a lot of great poetry out there! It’s the oldest form of literature, dating back to before writing. Most older forms of poetry employ rhyme and other sonic devices such as alliteration and meter because those traditions began when poetry was still transmitted orally, either recited or sung. It’s easy to understand why. Try and memorize roughly 14 lines of portraiture , one rhyming and metered like a Shakespearean sonnet, and the other free verse like Walt Whitman. You’ll find it MUCH easier to memorize the more formal. Anyway, I digress. Are you looking for poems to suit a certain mood or occasion? Are you looking for LGBTQ+ themes? Or any other theme? Are you interested in poetry translated from other languages?

There’s a fun app called just Poetry produced by the Poetry Foundation that lets you choose poems a combination of themes like nostalgia & celebration, nostalgia & life, life & boredom, life & youth, etc. It then gives you poems on that combination. You can also browse by mood, subject, the poet, or whether there is audio of the poets reading their work. Best of all, it’s free!!

@casbahmike hi! Yes I’m looking for lgbtqia+ themed poetry in general. But I’m open to exploring more and reading some of your favourites as well.

You’ll find poems by gay poets in that app I mentioned, but I don’t think there’s too much that is necessarily LGBTQ+ themed, but it’s a fun app, especially the random spins. I just did it and got 32 poems on pessimism & celebrations.

Actually, it just occurred to me that The Poetry Foundation, the makers of that app, have curated a collection of LGBTQ+ poems and essays: collections/144686/lgbtq-pride-poems
