Debussy has always touched me. Having steered clear of solo works during my studies I’ve now taken it upon myself to deep dive. The Ballade, L.70 is a concert rarity overtaken by the showiness of his Images and the etudes, and the now infamous ‘Clair de Lune’ from Suite Bergamasque - a downright right shame really. It’s brooding with quiet yearning and carefully placed exuberance. I love playing it.
