Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights… You are right, it feels lonely. Although, it is also so peaceful… the streets are quiet, the neighbours are sleeping, sometimes the silence is interrupted by the wind or my dog snoring in the background. Meanwhile I’m trying to get the right depth of field for a photo. It’s strange how much I like this.

@theartfulroger when I say Saturday night I mean like 1am Sunday morning lol I can’t even get started until mister is in bed after 10. But I do like the idea of a collective art club- how might that work?

@ojo oh you’re so right. Melancholy is a more accurate description of what I meant. I’m quite content by myself when I’m working - at least most the time. Occasionally I would like some company to bounce something off or I get a pang of the witching hour sadness … it’s a kind of poetic feeling, or at least I think it could only be described in a poetic way. I’m sure there’s a language out there with a word for exactly the feeling.

@izo Absolutely- and I really can’t create at any other time. I dislike the suffering artist cliche but I must say I make my best work when I have this melancholy on me. Melancholy is just the bittersweet sadness of knowing that everything is temporary- bittersweet because we can’t change it but we can enjoy something all the more for knowing it cannot last.

@justben I love to play Chopin and Stravinsky, but typically end up playing some random songs that have been stuck in my head all week. For wine, sometimes it’s Cabernet Sauvignon or Sauvignon Blanc.

@devvvice that sounds so beautiful and what a contrast; Chopin and Stravinsky! Dumbarton Oaks is a favourite to paint to - anything with a strong rhythm gives me energy.

Yes totally… more enjoyable than going out to a bar where you can’t sit and have to shout to have a conversation… no thanks, I’ll stay home and work on myself! It’s a kind of loneliness that I find calming.
