tell them! it’s okay. a good therapist expects a few half-truths, lies or misrepresentations at the beginning. this is you testing boundaries as you get to know your therapist and build rapport. believe it or not, this is normal! tell them about the lie and maybe even why you think you did it. they will help you unpack whatever’s behind that and won’t judge you. good luck homie. and good for you for starting! that’s a big step!

Congrats! That’s a big step! And no worries they expect it. Take your time and open up at your own pace. You’ll do great 🥰

You are already doing the biggest work of showing up. I went to therapy for 3 years until I one day said to my therapist ”You know what, I haven’t been completely honest, I have been performing a version of myself that isn’t true… ”and then i for once in my life told someone about a very personal event, and i am now finally able to start healing. It takes time, and the therapist knows that, and can only hope they give you the safe space to be honest with yourself

@pnklmnade it’s very common for us to perform as people, especially in a setting where you are to present your inner self to an outsider. I read about it in a psychology book about how many of us without realizing mask in front of therapists, especially if we think not revealing our true selves is a defence mechanism and masking is a way of surviving since childhood. It’s complicated haha, i’m not gonna go into it more, just know that you are exactly where you should be in this journey. Proud of you for showing up!

It’s a growing process. We each take time to change and develop, but the thing we often forget is how much we stumble and fail. To make a mistake is to be human. There will be days where it seems bad but this doesn’t have to be the end. You just need to refocus and see how far you’ve come :)

I lied to my therapist so much but like also told a lot of truth. I just don’t think even she needed to know EVERYTHING
