I never get it when gay people are apathetic about Pride, like my friends. Maybe it's because I come from fundamentalism. I understand the intensity. Conversation of hell fire and brimstone are fanciful until well meaning people start talking about stoning, oppression, concentration camps ...and these people have power. The totalitarian governments that faded away, not only because of the natural corruption they held but because the people became vocal, loud, resistant. It is the same reason why totalitarian governments stay in power today- because the people aren't able to speak out. All animals are born with defensive mechanisms. For human beings that is our voice. Our voice is the weapon given for our defense. Pride may have become a drunken fueled bacchanal but that's beside the point. It is our voices coming together, really, literally, for our survival. Even if we do messily. The queer person roughly makes up less than 10% of the population, that's being generous. If we don't stick together, stay vocal, stay loud, we cut at the tree that shades the next generation of queer men and woman. Innocent men and women. That's a worse legacy to leave than being human who happens to be gay. (..despite all the issues we have within the gay community.)
