After years of saying i’d start going, I just locked in immediately. The sheer thought of leaving my ass gains on the table was enough motivation 😭😭

But also made consistency my goal over everything else

Life is about seasons and consistency is about coming back to it. There could be a set of weeks that I can’t go but I come back to it…

My ADHD means I wrestle with procrastination all the time. I hit a stride when I realised I couldn’t count on motivation to always be there, but I could count on discipline. Second thing was reading a doctor’s thread online about if you want to be an independent 80 year old, you have to be a fit and capable 70 year old, and if you want to be that mobile at 70, you gotta be a fit 60 year old etc etc. being active is the only way you’ll have some agency over your ageing process.

Discipline is hard. But once I start seeing results it makes it easier. Just have to get over the hump and keep reminding myself: “consistency over time produces results” “Rome wasn’t built in a day”; whatever resonates.

This advice is less about hitting stride and more about playing the long game. Two things for you to keep in mind, find something you actually enjoy doing and can treat the process as a skill acquisition you can enjoy the mundane aspects of. that way when things inevitably come up hampering your ability to show up you’re more likely to be excited about getting back to it rather than feeling dread in starting again.

Honestly, right after the first class. It finished and i was like “i think i found my place”. I do calysthenics, it’s like a guided class, 1 hour. Works great for me, fun time, small group, no mirrors, i leave my phone in the locker during the whole time. I’m starting my 3rd year there, while in other regular gyms i would last a few months then drop it. So yeah, happy 🙂

Thats when I started to feel the urge to go the gym and was actually happy to go alone

@udonomii That’s how I feel about my runs, I’m excited about what i’m gonna see on the train honestly.
