we tend to hold ourselves to such a higher standard. why is it so hard to follow our own advice and give ourselves the same grace we give others? aren’t we all living this life for the first time?

I’ve come to understand that inherited messages and learned behavior is a wild and wonderful and wicked thing. Fighting to be seen, known, and loved as we are can create an inner narrative that we are only worthy if we are hustling, people pleasing or anything but ourselves and that creates impossible standards. It’s like a trickle of water in the mind that starts when we are young that before we know it becomes a riverbed that all of our other thoughts run through. But the magic is that like a river we can create a damn and stop it. It’s hard as hell, and like when we divert water it goes over rocks and trees and feels uncomfortable. But the view on the other side is absolutely magical.
