Hey! Sometimes you have to sit in the discomfort for a while to understand why you feel that way. When I felt that way it was because I was scared of failure, of being judged or not being good enough. I had to dig deep to understand that most of that was because I had chosen not to have hope for the future, so everything seemed uninteresting and not worth trying. My therapist taught me that our compass in life are our values. Once we identify them, we can move forward. For example, one of my values is “Do the work” (yes you can name them however you want). This value is related to my physical and mental health, and it is my drive to work to have a healthy life all around - however that looks for me. Ask yourself, what is something I really believe or stand for, what is a boundary that I don’t want anyone to cross? Write those answers and start building your values. Once you have those, you can start defining goals that align with what you really want and believe. I know it kind of sounds mumbo jumbo, but take from someone who dealt with suicidal ideation a lot in the past 10+ years. Once you decide to have hope and do the work, that feeling goes away. Sorry for the long post. Feel free to dm me if you need someone to talk to.

I feel you. I’m in this state of mind right now. And for the last 2-3 months. I do my work. I come home and play video games. Don’t have the motivation to do anything. I’ve quit workout classes and the gym. Perhaps I feel lonely. Doing things I normally love doesn’t bring me the same joy. Hard cycle to break. I guess the cliché of “one day at a time” is kind of true.

@jcp Have you heard of the term functional freeze? You should ask yourself what aspects of life are you subconsciously avoiding?

Go on a walk in nature to gain clarity. Helps more than you’d think!

@jberrios Thank you for this in-depth response! I appreciate your vulnerability. I’ve also been working on discovery core values with my therapist. It can definitely hard to figure these out. I know freedom is one of mine for sure, but still figuring out what truly matters to me. I’m glad this has worked for you and you’re in a better place ❤️

@brandonsevilla I’m glad to know you’re doing better. I definitely agree that defining core values is harder that it seems, but it’s worth it. Keep at it!
