I am a closeted 23m who has never been in a relationship. It feels like I missed out on that teenage period in life where everyone learns how to date and what love/romance is/feels like. It feels like missing out on that has left me so far behind everyone else that it’s too overwhelming and impossible to ever catch up. Does anyone else relate to this?

@haris5 yeah don’t worry, I got what you meant. I was just saying that I agree that it’s not EVERYONE but it feels like it is/alone in that feeling 😅

I also felt like this until I met my ex. I think it’s important to say that relationships and dating is not a competition on who had the most experience. That aside, a lot of us queers don’t get the “teenage dating experience”, so you’re not alone. I felt a bit that achieving some of the “firsts” was like ripping off a bandaid, I had to get them over with so that the threshold would be lower for the next time.

I can guarantee you are not alone... there are people who are coming out in their 50s.. I think what you're experiencing is your individuality... I came out when I was 24, and boy did I come out! Enjoy it man! Live it up. Don't let society or your own preconceived notions of how it should be stop you. Start putting yourself out there.. enjoy the ride because at some point you'll be much older and this new feeling will be there but a lot less crisp..... 😂 😂 🙌🏽 🫶🏽 🫶🏽 🫶🏽 ❤️

I can totally relate. I came out later in life, so sometimes I feel like I missed out on those experiences too. I’m still finding my way, but I’ve learned to appreciate what I have now instead of wishing I could go back. Everyone’s journey is different, and there’s no deadline for experiencing love or building meaningful relationships. I truly hope you get to experience everything you’re hoping for. Wishing you all the best. ❤️

Came out to my friends and started dating at 21. Parents and extended family were not aware til I was 25. In retrospect (41 now) I wish I had freed myself from the burden earlier but that’s only because everything eventually went well. At the time I had good reason to be cautious. What feels like a long time for you now will soon feel like a short moment in the past. It DOES get better. It actually get amazing once you connect with more queer people and realize that we may in fact have more agency in life than our cis-straight peers. We get to form bounds differently, we get to sustain relationships with less societal expectations, we can even feel and act young longer! I hope that you can come out soon, but safety is key. Don’t wait on it to be proud of who you are.

I came out at 21 and felt similar before I did but I just felt relieved as well as I didn’t have the restraints of my parents watching over me especially when I moved away to uni

I was exactly the same ! To this day I kind of regret coming out so late ! I knew from the age of 16ish but didn’t fully come out to everyone until I was 29/30 but it’s my journey and I’m happy with how the future looks as my authentic self ! Don’t rush your journey, do it when it feels right 🙂

Same here. Too much things were taken away from us because we’re too afraid of what the world thinks. It was mentally suffocating but im glad i made it. I just wished the world was kinder and I was also braver

(didn’t read the other comments!) i was out since i was 15, but i did not have a relationship until i was 21, so i missed out too. don’t worry, you’re not supposed to start at X age, and you’re not going to become deficient if you don’t come out by Y year. take your time. do it your way. there’s a community online that loves you 🤍 (not all the time, we are also 🐍 but mostly!)

I was outed last year on my 22nd birthday to my parents, at the same time, got broken up with by a loser man. It took awhile for me to get comfortable being myself. I never got to experience mlm in high school either but I wouldn’t change that about my experience growing up. The time will come when you will get the chance, understand that you are never too old.

I came out at 24, at first I just talked to a close friend of mine about it. Coming out is, I would say from what I have learned, a lifetime process of deconstruction and rebuilding, of integration of fragmented facets of your Self, of redescovery, of healing. It’s hard and it can hurt because you gotta face your internalised homophobia and how homophobia reflects on many sides of everyday life, including the LGBT+ community itself. But it is such a rewarding experience, trust me. Everybody has their own timing in this process, because everybody’s life is different and immerged in different enviroments. I understand what you are feeling, and part of it is an idealised imagery of gay people. Understanding that everybody, more or less, share this difficult path and pain with you and understanding the root of this idealisation, which is the profound desire of human connection, will help you have some perspective about this! ❤️‍🩹
