ADHD themed : I need some advice. I’ve just been diagnosed yesterday- not a huge surprise, but I’m a bit confused. It explains a lot, and in the mean time I’m scared to hope too much on a treatment or on a general category that encapsulates many realities, and to discover I’m still hopeless lol I wonder to what extend you fellow diagnosed people that maybe are reading me were helped by the therapy. Did you have any treatment? Do you think the treatment was decisive or was the cognitive therapy more helpful ? When did you start to see a change in your life? So many questions 🤯 If some of you a willing to share, here or in private it would help ! Love !

I'm on ritalin and got a flexible work agreement due to my diagnosis 2 years ago because I am constantly late and just cant help it. Can highly recommend both.

I wasn’t diagnosed until 35. Adderall changed my life. It does require legitimate management and understanding how it works, but it does work for me. Besides it, apps on my phone have helped immensely. Finch, How Do I Feel, and just a simple hourly to-do list template in Reminders on my phone have taught me better executive functioning. Then, while I get plenty of too-close-to-home memes about ADHD via my algorithm, there really is a community online that helps. It only comes up in my talk therapy when it is having a clear impact on my actions related to specific goals.

Therapy definitely helped with understanding my thinking patterns more and having a little more patience with myself. I also take vyvanse which is less physical than adderall and slow release and it’s made a huge difference, although I am more of the inactive ADHD than hyperactive. I only take it on days where I think I’ll need it though

@zerspielt is being late to everything a symptom? That would explain so much 😂 Also I've noticed it's been getting worse like forgetting things and mental confusion. Do I have ADHD? I'm always saying my mom has it and it would be hilarious if I have it too cause I always get frustrated with her about it. I guess the universe really does have a sense of humour 😭

@vitra No idea you gotta figure that out with a therapist, you look fit though!

Treatment was terrible, the meds made me feel crazy. I just kinda use other hacks to make sure I don’t forget things, and probably way too much coffee. That said, the ADHD paralysis part comes and goes sometimes and it suckssss.

First off - welcome to the family! It’s a profound thing to learn about yourself so give yourself some grace while you figure this all out! Keeping it ADHD friendly with one quick helpful tip: Learning about the Wall Of Awful concept from the podcast: Hacking Your ADHD. Really helped me unblock a lot of unhelpful guilt and shame around procrastinating.

ADHD is a super power - embrace it ! Are you different ? Sure Therapy helps me a lot , tried meds…but not my cup of tea

@feppa thats tiktok propaganda it is not a superpower because you can hyperfocus on something but only if it actually interests you and otherwise need meds to fold your laundry 💀

@patricksf sorry treatment went bad, looks like some people tolerate better than other… but nice that you managed to find hacks and strategies- I guess it’s something we should all do!

@feppa it’s interesting since different persons have underlined the “strength” or “power” in adhd when I talked to them. What would you say this power is ?

Hi @bekindandfierce Thank you so much for everything you shared, it’s very precious. thank you for your kindness! ❤️ It is hard indeed to let go of the culpability and self-abasement. I feel like I still have a cognitive instinct to consider myself a non functionnal person, rather than finding the right hacks to help me- I’ll definitively go more into the behavior and cognitive therapy as well as treatment :) it’s noce to read the words from someone that has a bit of distance and long term expérience with that. 😘
