I don’t understand why I find it harder to connect with queer people lately. I mean, it is not like before it was super easy, but I just feel now it got more difficult and I really hardly feel connected with any of the queer guys I meet. I find very difficult to have meaningful interactions and I feel somehow I might be part of the problem, but no idea why/how. Does any of you feel also that way? Or do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance, as maybe you will help me to see things from a different perspective!

Same here 😅, but not only with queer people but also with straight 😬. I can make or talk with people easily but I don’t really feel like a connection to keep in touch with some of them.

@hando yeah, I feel the same sometimes. I am very open and friendly, yet that connection is hard to find. Maybe it is just we can be friend of everyone? Or do you think it cause of something else?

@sergilopez04 You are fully right. But I also feel apps like Grindr make us also more distant in the sense that we tend to be even more superficial than we would actually be, just cause those apps push you a lot to just look at the appearance and not substance. I know this also shouldn’t be an excuse to be superficial, and I know I am also faulty of that, yet I do really feel it is cause we are also pushed towards that by how those apps are made.

@luca995 In my opinion, grindr is definitely not the type of app that people should use to find meaningful connection, as the whole idea (or perception by community) of it is completely opposite

@olegs That’s true but Grindr is also the most used app in the gay community. So, it feels also it is where is the easiest to meet other people. There is no other equivalent but for meaningful for connections, right?

@gerardohza Yeah, that’s true. I mean I am not really bothered by shirtless pictures and stuff (at least here is not only nudes ahahah), but it is true that it would be nice also here to see a bit more diversity in that sense. That said I think that if someone has a shirtless picture doesn’t necessarily mean they want only sex, same the other way around. If someone has only dressed pictures doesn’t necessarily mean they want only meaningful connection. I feel we should be open to talk with someone without prejudice in that sense and then see how the vibe is I guess.

I feel like adding a shared activity can really make a big difference. A sports team, a gaming group etc, it gives something to connect over that’s deeper than appearances 🌹

@luca995 hmm 🧐 no idea 😅 but I would like to find out ☺️. I think we just have to be open to meet new people, and sometime we will click with someone ☺️ I hope so 🩷

Something fundamental broke during the pandemic, I think. I’m not sure what or how we fix it, but I don’t think you’re alone. I do have one suggestion to try, if you haven’t already. Find something you really enjoy and that fulfils you. In itself, this will give you some escape that you can engage in by yourself that might distract you from the lack of connection, and when you do meet someone, it can be one of the things you talk about, if they’re interested in hearing about it. Also try to find a group of people interested in the same thing that you can engage with. If your thing is gardening, join a garden club or get a plot at a community garden. If your thing is pottery, find a class or just go to pottery shows and talk to people. If your thing is reading, go to the library or bookstore, or join a book club. If you like to feel you are making the world a better place, there are lots of options: join a protest or volunteer for a campaign, volunteer at an animal shelter or join in a community cleanup of a park or wilderness area, volunteer with a mentoring program for LGBTQ+ kids, volunteer at a soup kitchen, or with whatever cause you feel strongly about. If you like movies, go out to see them. Here in Boston, there is a local theater that holds a social before the first Wednesday (I think) of the regular run of a new play. I’m sure they’re not the only company that does this. It’s definitely harder to connect these days because so much has gone online.

Hi Luca, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I for one have very little queer friends, hence why I came on this app to find like minded queer creatives or even just creatives. But I was disappointed to see men just using this as a sex appeal app.. i’m not surprised at how people hear the word ‘queer app’ and instantly start using it for hookups. I think the issue is, like you already mentioned, gay men can be superficial and show off with their abs and muscle.. (there are other apps for that). I mean I look at the home page on it kinda looks like Grindr. What a disappointment. So I don’t think you are the issue. Hope us queer creatives can stick together and use this app what its for, to make real connections and friends. ✌🏼🤓
