Don’t you just love it when the couple at the next table thinks you can’t understand a word they’re saying? The guy was talking absolute shit about me in their language, blissfully unaware I speak it fluently. Then he starts vaping, and the smoke blows right into my face. Cute. I finish my meal, pay the bill, get up to leave, and finally turn to them. “Thanks for the kind words,* BEEP *,” I say to him. Then to his wife: “Congrats on your choice of man, Madam.” His eyes go wide. She looks like she wants to disappear into the floor. 10/10 Pure Satisfaction

You must have felt so satisfied! Good for you! Wish I could have seen that. I had a friend who was an amazing polyglot. His native language was English, but he taught Arabic. One day on campus, an American who taught Japanese was walking with a first year student to the building he was leaving speaking to her student and for some reason she commented on his weight to her student, assuming he wouldn’t understand. He was a bit overweight because he’d been ill. As they passed he said, in Japanese, “Not that it’s any of your business, but I’ve just had treatment for a glandular tumor, so I have gained weight, but you really shouldn’t talk about people like that.” But the coup de grace came when he told the student, “By the way, your teacher’s sentence is not grammatically correct,” then explained exactly why. 😂 😂
