Not something I was told, rather something I was taught- my grandmother would always feed the birds leftover breadcrumbs after cutting the bread. While feeding sparrows in front of our house one morning, I asked her why she does that. She told me as the wether gets cold, they have less and less to eat, so we must help them. Nothing more. In my little head back then, it unlocked a deep understanding of love, goodness, compassion, empathy, humanity. Not for some “karmic” benefit, but for the sake of it.
