I think for English speakers focusing on vocab and grammar and later on pronunciation is best approach

Yes, there are some great books and it all starts with a lot of patience, grammar and songs. Try getting a hang of basic verbs and identifying them in music, watch old anime’s you enjoyed when young in French to look for new content, and little by little, you get close to fluency :)

Watch tv, movies and listen to radio in French. Try not to translate everything, but try to get the context.

@timstern I beg to differ… kids don’t learn grammar first. Talking, pronunciation, to me, is key.

Listening to French music was the fastest way for me to learn context when I was in school so I would recommend that.

As a French native speaker, I’d mostly recommend being surrounded by French (phone settings, music, series (Call my Agent AKA Dix pour cents in French 🤌), convos, radios, YouTube videos etc.)

Watch tv shows in French, with French subtitles. You won’t understand a thing but it’ll help your ears become familiar with the sounds first, songs also help a lot, reading is really good, but mostly try to immerse yourself in the language, ideally having someone to chat with will really help out.
