If it’s good coffee it’s worth paying for. But if it’s chain starbucks-style ashy coffee forget it. Also highly recommend an espresso machine for home use, a real one with decent pressure so you can get a nice crema. Then you can start exploring the different beans and roasts - it’s great fun and there is so much variety out there. Just like wine and cheese, there are so many flavour characteristics to coffee, a whole spectrum of tasting notes.

If you love Latte, you don’t need a “good” coffee, you need a good milk and strong coffee so you can taste it in your latte. If you like coffee, a good Italian coffee method will be so helpful and easy to use. 😉

@kenyoinhb yeah, milk definitely hides a multitude of sins. I’ve seen some places offer a different coffee roast / bean for those taking it black vs with milk. I guess the flavour profile is customised to be bolder for the milk drinks, since a nice subtle fruity coffee would otherwise get lost.

I have a neighbor that has a whole home espresso maker w/ a steamer.. as an ex barista it was kinda therapeutic to re-do my crafts whenever I get invited over, definitely worth it 🤣 Most of the time it’ll came out to less than a dollar per drink once you got everything you like.

@justben Yes, most of the milk contains sugar so that kills the acid of the coffee. I just only drink espresso or americano, never sugar, never milk, but I would consider unsweetened milk. And dark roasted coffee is the best 😉

@kenyoinhb agreed black is always best but I don’t enjoy a dark roast any more. I have been getting into funky types, different wash processes etc. I got these weird beans in Estonia called Magic Pussy 😅 and the taste is wild!

you can actually brew a pretty delicious cup of coffee with a more budget friendly set up. Personally I’d recommend splurging on a good double burr grinder and depending on how you like your coffee getting either a moka pot, aeropress or french press. Having a consistent grind makes or breaks your coffee, and while you can grind your beans ahead of time at the store you will ultimately loose out on a lot of flavor the longer those pre ground beans sit.
