Living alone vs living with roommates? There are perks to both, but what are your thoughts?

I’ve been living without a roommate since September. Perks, being alone, not having to worry about someone else, etc. but what I find struggling recently is that there’s no one to share the load with. Work has been killing me recently, so house work has been the very last priority. It’s nice to have a roommate for when you’re spiraling, someone’s there to help out

To me, living alone is unparalleled, specially the freedom it gives you and it’s the best way to get to know yourself. With roomies, I feel it’s trickier. I’d do it for economic reasons: to share expenses and save some money. Or with friends or acquaintances, so that I know I’d get along well and would agree on certain house rules. While traveling abroad for a few months too, gives you a sense of community or not feeling alone. With random people I feel like it’s a long shot, would depend on the match.

@die I think I agree. I don’t live alone and honestly never have lived alone. I want to try it for the first time but I’m nervous about being alone all of the time despite having friends, as we get older, people require more planning to hangout I guess. But with roommate I kind of always have my friends but privacy is limited. But like there’s nothing like waking up to friends every day and they want to see you do well and then as well and then having adventures on top of that almost daily is unmatched. But true, it does depend on the roommate situation

I’ve only ever lived alone after leaving my parents and I can not imagine having to share with anyone. It’s allowed me to realise how much I value my own space, quiet, and being able to do things in my own time. The only time it’s really hard is when I’m unwell and have to look after myself lol. I’m very lucky to have been able to afford to buy a place by myself, it’s definitely a privilege !
