I am a 36-year-old Latino man living through intense, complicated times far from my family in the United States—my family lives in Cuba. Even though I have a very strong character and outlook on life due to everything I’ve been through, I feel like I’m falling apart whenever I’m with the person I’ve been involved with since January 2026. I love him and miss him terribly; he says he loves me, but his actions don't match his words—he acts strangely and indifferently, though at other times he’s the complete opposite. I know this relationship isn't good for me, yet I stay and wait. What should I do?

Leave ASAP! It might hurt now but believe me you will be grateful later

Life is too short to be with someone who doesn’t cherish you. A mature thing to do could be spell out exactly how his behaviours make you feel, what you need to see change and the consequences of things not changing. But that is perhaps more generous than he deserves and you don’t owe him that, so if you genuinely feel the relationship is harmful to you in any way, then you can call it off with a clear conscience. I know loneliness is miserable but a toxic, insecure relationship is worse than no relationship. You have to put the love for yourself first.
