learning tennis as a beginner has taught me so much about the importance of sportsmanship, specifically how narrow-minded some of the other beginner players are when all they do is smack the ball across the court at all cost when all we're supposed to do at this stage is practicing to rally with each other. ok rant over 🙏

I feel like most contemporary societies are losing our sense of sportsmanship and fair play! Competition is healthy, but it doesn’t always have to be winner take all! It’s one of the things I like most about rugby! It focuses on fair play and teams still have a close relationship with fans. It’s also why I prefer reality tv competitions that don’t reward cheating and duplicity, in which the contestants compete at their very best without actively trying to undermine each other, or that have judges that offer constructive critique instead of catty, harsh criticism. But that’s just my opinion.

Totally, beginning tennis is about form, sight, and repetition. I can see how someone would want to jump into aggressive play. That backhand will humble them real quick 😅

@casbahmike i can imagine that there is more pressure to perform as a professional player due to the intensified parasocial relationships as a public figure with social media and the increased visibility, but my personal experience is just as a recreational player tbh 😂
