I’ve been on a break from Instagram for a week and feel pretty awesome. I am also dealing with feels of disconnection from the world and some form of news about what’s happening. Anyone else have suggestions on how to stay connected without having to submit to doom scrolling and the slop that’s out there?

Honestly, substack, and browsing local public news outlets (pbs, wgbh) mostly scratches that itch when I’ve wanted to engage with content or get informed. I also find that reading books or something kinda helps rather than cold turkey it. Fill the scroll time with some other content to consume that makes for a more wholesome digital content diet (self help and critical thinking heavy type of content) Gotta let go of that amigdala and dopamine iron grip that social media has on us.

@tempson also, you can just call or text friends. People wanna connect, we’ve just forgotten everyone is just a phone call away because of these weird para-social relationships that spring out of being chronically on social media.
