I had to delete my social media to focus on studying and work. How do you balance being addicted to social media with real life?

I was having this problem a lot too! For me, I started using an app called Foqos that basically blocks me from entering social media or whatever app I don’t want to use when I want to focus, and the only way to unlock it is using an NFC chip or card. It’s similar to Brick, if you’ve heard of it, but free.

I did the same, and then found this place and now I'm here all the time. Honestly I've just leaned into it. I post as soon as I wake up to get that urge out of the way. I've stopped trying to censor myself or curate my feed. I get less and less engagement because it's so manic, but I also feel more authentic and real. Plus the less and less engagements got me moving further and further away from the app. I guess I try to act as genuinely as I can on here. That seems, for me, the most sympathetic of both "worlds".

i think temporarily deleting it is the way to go because app time limits have a work around

Im addicted to my phone for sure. Im on my phone at work, at home, everywhere. I long for popularity and some sort of fame. Right now it would take too much energy and effort to try and break it.

Switch off all notifications for social media it helps reduce the frequency you are drawn into looking at it also removing the app icon from your home screen and un saving passwords so you have to physically type it every time you want to use it becomes more of a chore to look at it actively discouraging our brains from wanting to go on it

I deleted IG and have felt such peace since… gives me good reason to study or read a book.

@kalil.garcia Is Foqos a paid app? I installed the Opal app, but the free version lets you unlock apps, and the paid version is way too expensive

@jama Foqos is fully free! The only thing that costs money is if you want to use an NFC tag to unlock your apps you have to buy them from anywhere, which I recommend because it makes it more difficult to “cheat”! But you don’t have to have that, you can block and unblock manually for free.

Honestly travel solo, and put your phone on silent mode….that does wonders for me 😛

I usually delete all apps, in the beginning is hard but later is better
