@cass oh, yes! Earbuds, and just crank up the music and zone out. Also! I guess gym etiquette. Always put back the weights, and wipe down your station. If you need to ask wait until they’re done with their set. You’ll be surprised at how friendly everyone is at the gym.

Just go. I had the same issue and once I realized no one is paying attention to me that was helpful

@sam2bh most guys in the gym want to improve themselves and it’s a vicious cycle of comparison, i would recommend a nice PT to show you the ropes and you’ll be in your own routine in no time

Remind yourself that everyone started somewhere and that generally, everyone is so preoccupied trying to survive their workout that you’re invisible. GymPod is also an option in London. You get a private mini gym all to yourself for an hour. A few friends started there to have the space to nail the basics first before going to a public one. For no nonsense advice on gym etiquette, how to deal with machines etc nobsapp on TikTok or YouTube is very useful. You can do it! 💪

Haha. Yes def don’t go when it’s busy. Lunch time is good if you can ? Also get a trainer for a few sessions to learn the ropes ! Good luck

i go in after work before the evening rush. i sometimes wear sunglasses and tune out with music. the more i do it the more i realized the usefulness of a tank top so breaking that barrier was hard but so worth it now when i catch people looking

I would suggest that while you’re attempting to go to the gym out of shame — rather than enjoyment — then you might always feel inadequate in spaces that are all about chasing an ever moving ideal. I would suggest you figure out what your goals are and find more social ways of fulfilling them. For me, it was bouldering: getting fit and toned all while building community and having fun. Only then did I feel that I actually wanted to go to the gym, to build strength to improve my bouldering. The number of times I had tried going to the gym with your same mindset, and failed, because it was shame driving the behaviour — countless. Good luck ❤️

I HATE the gym! I prefer biking, hiking, kayaking, etc. Wish I lived in a place that was warm all year so I’d get plenty of exercise without ever having to go to a gym.
